Sizes 8 fluid drams (25 mL approx.) and larger are designed from ASTM Specification E1094, Type 2 requirements (also NBS Handbook 44). Sizes 4 fluid drams (15 mL), and smaller do not meet ASTM E1094 nor NBS Handbook 44 requirements and therefore may not be used for prescription work in states which adopt these specifications.
